Make the most of your March stay at Lakeland Lodges
March is such a wonderful time to visit Lakeland Lodges and enjoy a Lake District lodge holiday. With spring drawing in, there’s so much to explore in the surrounding landscape – but it’s also a great time of year for events and activities. We’ve put together a list of the best events in the local area throughout March for you to enjoy.

Lake District lodge holiday: discover surrounding nature
Experience nature at its very best at Wray Castle’s Birds of Wray Castle quest (Saturday 30th, Sunday 31st March). On your quest, you’ll need to imagine yourself in the feathers of one of the resident birds, and explore what life’s like for each of them around the grounds.
Discover some of the brightest gems around during a garden walk (Monday 18th – Friday 29th March) at Sizergh Castle. There’s been a garden at Sizergh since 1239, so you can imagine how many hands have tended to it since then! Or, wrap up warm, bring your ears and eyes and challenge yourself to spot the elusive Hawfinch with the help of Sizergh’s rangers during a Hawfinch watch (various dates throughout March).
If you’d like to take some fabulous flowers home, you can’t miss Kendal’s Spring Flower Show (Saturday 16th March), where you can get your hands on some beautiful, rare and unusual plants.
Learn more about different bird songs in the woodland and around the reedbed, get tips on identification and advice about wildlife watching at Leighton Moss’ Birdsong For Beginners (Sunday 24th March).
Want to learn more about wildlife in the local area? Head along to the fun-filled Brockholes for a Midweek Meander (every Wednesday in March) where you’ll join the Guided Walk Leaders for a tour of the reserve. Find out about the history of Brockholes, its wildlife and its conservation aims. Or, Meet the Keeper (every Sunday in March) at Williamson Park to learn about the life cycles and habitats of the inhabitants in the Butterfly House and Mini Beast Cave.
Lodge holiday Lake District: Laugh along to some quality comedy
Head to Lancaster Comedy Club to enjoy the hilarious work of Carl Hutchinson (Sunday 24th March) or Brennan Reece (Sunday 31st March) to keep you laughing the whole week through.
Or, visit the quaint town of Kendal to see award-winning Rachel Parris (Wednesday 6th March), as seen on The IT Crowd and Murder In Successville, presents a collection of songs, stories and stand-up at The Brewery Arts Centre.
Fun for the whole family during your Lakes lodge holiday
Try something different and bring the kids along to a Yoga and Mindfulness Class (every Friday in March) suitable for all ages at Footprint in Windermere. The sessions are designed to empower kids aged 7+ around image, confidence, friendship and growing up.
For the younger ones, take part in a Tots Trek (Wednesday 13th March) at Leighton Moss and join the short buggy-friendly walk packed with sensory games and fun – whatever the weather!
Immerse yourself in Lake District culture
Visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery and experience an alternative view to the gallery, with an opportunity to ask those questions you’ve always wanted to know about conservation, and hear about how the collection is managed. You’ll see objects that belonged to Beatrix Potter and are not usually on display to the public, such as early editions of Beatrix’s books or her jewellery, during the Conservation in Action sessions (every Friday in March).
Watch the greatest romantic comedy, Much Ado about Nothing (Tuesday 5th – Saturday 9th March) at The Dukes theatre in Lancaster. Told in true Northern Broadsides style, this production of Shakespeare’s glorious romantic comedy is sure to capture your hearts this spring!
