Food & drink highlights for your Lake District lodge holiday

We love autumnal menus and seasonal ingredients and know that many of our guests enjoy making some food and drink finds during their holiday. In fact, we truly believe that a Lake District lodge holiday is not complete without a foodie find or a real ale discovery.

So, here are three of our insider tips on where to find some food and drink highlights while you’re near the Lakes:

Greenlands Village Farm Shop

They say: “Our farm shop is a happy collaboration between us and the wonderful suppliers who arrive at our door, laden with delicious, locally made produce. And nestled as we are between Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire, we are positively spoilt for choice.”

We say: More than just a farm shop, Greenlands brings together a wonderful wine shop, a traditional butcher, a tempting range of treats baked on site (the scones are very hard to walk past), a cheese counter packed with regional cheeses, and groceries from some of our best Lake District producers (including Hawkshead Relish, Cartmel Village Shop & English Lakes).

Lancaster Brewery

They say: “Gain an insight into the day-to-day inner workings of the Brewery during our relaxed and informal tours. Covering all the necessities of the brewing process beginning with the malt silo right through the underback and copper to the racking machine and cold store. Asking as many questions as you please is actively encouraged and we hope you leave having learned something new.”

We say: A great place to discover some locally brewed ales, you’ll find it hard to choose between Blonde, Amber, Black and Red! The tours are really interesting and well worth taking if you have time – make sure you head back to the bar afterwards and try the pork pie and salad. There’s a farm shop on site too if you’d like to pick up some farm fresh groceries on your way back to the lodges.

Morecambe Bay Potted Shrimps

They say: “Morecambe Bay Brown Shrimps are renowned for their delicate taste and unique texture; they have been caught by local Fishermen for hundreds of years. Even though the fishing methods have changed, with the horse and cart being replaced by the tractor, we still follow the same traditional recipe. Locally caught shrimps, boiled in butter with a secret combination of spices until they are tender, are sealed with butter and packed into pots. They can be eaten either warm or cold.”
We say: This local speciality is a must-try during your stay with us – select it on a pub or restaurant menu or pick up a pot in the local farm shop or supermarket and enjoy them as a light lunch or supper with local bread and a simple salad. Be warned, they are moreish!

We look forward to welcoming you to Lakeland Lodges this autumn, and we can’t wait to hear about your foodie finds and drink discoveries – there’s plenty in the local larder to enjoy!
