Holiday lodges Lancashire: Your Spring Soundtrack

You’ve booked your holiday lodges, Lancashire beckons, and you’re ready for a well-deserved break. But we think every break needs a soundtrack – some great music to add to your holiday memory bank. So we’ve put together a selection of our own favourite tracks that remind us of Spring, Lancashire, and the Lake District…

Hazy Shade of Winter – Simon and Garfunkel

Forget the Bangles’ version of this song, which is altogether too smooth and produced. This is the definitive version from 50 years ago, and it is perfect when there’s a patch of snow on the ground and Spring is being a bit slow to arrive! We, of course, love their lyrical suggestion of looking around with a vodka and lime in hand – but it’s a good song to brighten a wintry day in March whatever the tipple you choose to accompany it with.

By the way: The acclaimed Simon & Garfunkel Story is heading to Colne in Lancashire in September of this year, why not time a holiday lodge stay with the show?

Swingamajig – Electric Swing Circus

Producing great music right now, this 6-piece fronted by ‘a sassy female double-act’ combines saucy 1920’s swing with stomping electro beats to create an absolute party. Our hands-down favourite track from their self-titled album is Swingamajig, which is full of sun, sand, martini and birds – all of which we have right here in Lancashire!

By the way: Tickets for ESC’s March 24th show are available from The Brewery Arts Centre box office in Kendal.

ELECTRIC SWING CIRCUS

Lights out for Darker Skies – British Sea Power

This 2008 track is all about light, with some write ups suggesting that it tracks the history of man made light and others claiming that it backs the campaign for darker skies, which fights light pollution. Either way, it puts us in mind of the constantly changing light over the lake here at the lodges. And, it’s the perfect evening track if you’re taking a dip in one of our hot tubs or enjoying the peace with a quiet sit outside as the sun drops – our Lancashire skies can be truly stunning!

By the way: The British Sea Power boys, Scott, Matthew and Neil, are originally from Kendal – just up the road from our holiday lodges.

Flower Duet – Lakme

Made popular by the British Airways advert, this piece of classical music is apparently a favourite of Alan Titchmarsh. It’s inspired by flowers, which makes it perfect for a Spring visit as we are treated to the banks of daffodils, woodlands full of bluebells and the greening-up of the surrounding countryside.

By the way: All of our guests on Mother’s Day (March 11th) will be receiving flowers in the lodges.

One Day Like This – Elbow

Fellow northerners, Elbow, know what a single day can do for you in this part of the world: “Throw those curtains wide! One day like this a year’d see me right.” Need we say more? Enjoy your days like this and let us know which songs remind you of your time in our Lancashire holiday lodges.

By the way: If you are looking for new musical inspiration, check out Gnoosic, which reviews your current favourites and comes up with complementary suggestions. You can agree, disagree and remain uncommitted as it makes suggestions – it’s a fun way to find new artists.
