Holiday lodges Lancashire: What’s on this Spring?
Welcome to our What’s On blog post for Spring 2018. Your round up of events and activities to help you make the most of your holiday lodges. Lancashire is positively buzzing as we head out of Winter!
Here’s our What’s On shortlist for Spring…
1. Spring Events at the Harris Museum Preston.
The Harris Museum Art Gallery & Library is the Grade I listed home to collections of fine art, contemporary art, fashion, textiles, ceramics, glass and history. Free to visit and open seven days a week (except on Bank Holidays), there’s a good selection of events running throughout Spring. These include talks by special guests and Harris experts, chances to handle museum collections and explorations of their Egyptian Balcony.
2. Swan Spectacular, Martin Mere.
Catch the daily feeds of up to 2,000 migrating whooper swans at Martin Mere (until March). This spectacle is unique to the North West and includes a feed at 3pm in their Discovery Hide and one at 3.30pm in their Raines Observatory. Both of which include a talk by the Martin Mere wardens. Here’s what they have to say: “The noise is deafening and the sight is amazing as swans, shelduck, wigeon and pintail all gather for their food. It is literally a carpet or wildlife across the front mere.”
3. Steam Weekend, Rossendale.
Following a big screen appearance in Paddington 2, Britain’s newest steam engine, “Tornado” (a Peppercorn Class A1 60163) will be celebrating her 10th birthday on the East Lancashire Railway. She’s the first locomotive to reach 100 miles per hour in the last 50 years, so it’s sure to be a popular event. Join the celebrations and ride behind the locomotive (March 29th – April 2nd 2018).
4. Bluebell walks, Lancashire & Cumbria
Enjoy a walk among our local woodlands, which will be awash with a carpet of bluebells and crocuses this Spring. The best time to see them is in late April and early May – see if you can spot the honey and bumblebees visiting the flowers too. Try Dorothy Farrer’s Spring Wood in Staveley, and Rufford Old Hall’s Beech Walk and North Woods in Lancashire for a stunning bluebell display.
5. Comedy Nights, The Borough
Every Sunday evening, The Borough in Lancaster is home to the Lancaster Comedy Club, which has welcomed some of the biggest acts in comedy since it opened 11 years ago – John Bishop & Chris Ramsey, Romesh Ranganathan. This Spring, the Borough’s Drawing Room will welcome more comedians to the stage and if you dine before the show and order two main courses, you’ll receive a free bottle of house wine. Tickets for the Comedy Club are £10 (or £8 in advance). This is the perfect way to simultaneously tickle your taste buds and your ribs!
